As MP for Wansbeck and as a trustee of the Woodhorn Charitable Trust, Ian was delighted to be informed of the recent awarding of funds to the museum. The new funding, to the value of £49,918, from the Landfill Communities Fund distributed by the SITA Trust, will be used to create a free & permanent outdoor Children’s Play Area at the museum, based just outside of Ashington. This will help to improve an already outstanding facility that brings great benefits to the constituency and the region.
The Museum is home to a number of permanent exhibitions. They include the Ashington Group of painters, world renowned for their artistic depiction of life in industrial Northumberland and Woodhorn remains the only place that their work has a permanent home. It is also one of the best places to understand the industrial history of the region, as there are several exhibitions on how mining communities lived through the ages.
The addition of a playpark will further enhance the museum so it can be of greater benefit to the community as a whole. New generations will be able to experience the proud history of this fantastic region.
