I am delighted to be hosting an event in support of the WASPI campaign in Wansbeck. On Friday 5th August from 10-11.30am at Ashington Football Club, there will be hosting a coffee morning for constituents. The event will be a fantastic opportunity to socialise with campaigners and community groups. All constituents interested in the WASPI campaign are welcome to attend.
I’d like to invite everyone in Wansbeck to the coffee morning, whether they are a seasoned campaigner or are interested in learning more about the WASPI campaign, it will be a great opportunity to socialise and connect with other people in our community.
WASPI, or Women Against State Pension Inequality, was founded to protest against the lack of notice of pension age equalisation by the 1995 and 2011 Pension Acts. It seeks to achieve fair transitional arrangements for women affected by the increase. I am a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on WASPI and attended the national WASPI demonstration in London in June.
House of Commons Library research shows that in Wansbeck 3,930 women will be affected by the 2011 State Pensions Act. The WASPI e-petition was signed by 321 residents of Wansbeck.
